About City Hall
This was the heart of colonial Singapore. The Padang was set aside as an open field in the earliest town plans, with government buildings and churches built around it.
St Andrew's Cathedral was completed in 1861, Raffles Hotel opened in 1887 and the City Hall building was finished in 1929. City Hall and the old Supreme Court reopened together as the National Gallery Singapore in 2015.
City Hall MRT opened in December 1987. South Beach, with its residential tower, and Capitol Singapore with Eden Residences Capitol were both completed in the mid-2010s.
